Sarno is one of the most polluted rivers in Europe

River Sarno, the most polluted river in Europe, but Nocera Inferiore, as well as in other municipalities, lacks in fact the collector that allows the sewer system to be sustainable, autonomous and efficient. Thus the river is used as a huge cloaca named Solofrana. This creek joins the Sarno and in fact is the main killer. The other tributary, the Cavaiola, contributes with discharges of canneries and civil wastewater of various kinds. A stretch of the Nocerino Common Bed, an artificial canal of the Sarno river that originates in the municipality of Nocera Inferiore, where it collects the waters of the Cavaiola and Solofrana streams.
