India: Rare sculpture of Lord Buddha (head portion) found in Purulia

An antique sculpture of Lord Buddha (head portion) was found under the earth in the village Dhanki, Manbazar, Purulia, West Bengal recently on 31st July, 2023 It is a very rare late Gupta and early Pala period (1200-1300 years old) granite sculpture of 12 cm height approximately 1.5 kg weight of Lord Buddha (accession number: MUS-337), with open leap and smile and having dreadlocks apparently looking the same as Sarnath School of Art. Finding the same in Purulia is very significant. This Sculpture of Lord Buddha is being shown at a press conference at the New Secretariat Building, Kolkata.
