Spain: The prestigious photographer Sebastião Salgado presents his exhibition 'Amazônia' in Madrid by Hugo Ortuño
The Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado (Brazil, 1944), is seen on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, while presenting his most recent photographic exhibition 'Amazônia', at the Villa Cultural Center, in Madrid (Spain). The exhibition includes a gigantic selection with 200 images, most of them in large format, seven films, largely starring indigenous peoples, and a soundtrack composed especially for the project by Jean-Michel Jarre in which sounds from the Amazon were used, known as the lungs of the planet. A unique natural space that is threatened by global consumption that reduces land from its forests for mining, agriculture and livestock. Sebastião Salgado, Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts in 1998 and King of Spain Photography Prize in 1987, has been working for seven years on this project with numerous expeditions to the Amazon that have required great technical and human deployment in exceptional conditions such as those of the Amazon jungle. 'Amazônia', which has registered more than one million 500 thousand visitors in other cities, can be seen from September 13 to January 14, 2024 in Madrid.
