in 14th may 2023, The powerful wind of Cyclone Mocha has caused extensive damage to Teknaf and Saint Martin's Island in Cox's Bazar. Sources said that Saint Martin's Island, Teknaf Sadar and several other coastal areas have been affected by strong winds which uprooted trees, and blown away roofs of houses. Locals were seen removing fallen trees from the roads, as volunteers worked to relocate people to shelters from different parts of the city. Weather-related disasters have surged over the past 50 years, causing swelling economic damage even as early warning systems have meant dramatically fewer deaths.The report found that over 90% of reported deaths worldwide due to disasters over the 51-year-period occurred in developing countries.WMO pointed out in a report issued two years ago covering disaster-linked deaths and losses between 1970 and 2019, that at the beginning of the period the world was seeing more than 50,000 such deaths each year.
