Bangladesh : Celebration of the Bengali New Year (Pohela Boishakh) in Chittagong

Pohela Baishakh or Bengali New Year is celebrated with much splendour among the Bengali communities spread all over the world. The day is observed on the first day of the Bengali calendar, which usually falls either on the 14th or 15th of April. Fairs, cultural events, and food festivals form an integral part of Bengali New Year celebration. New Year is a symbol of prosperity and new life. And around this new year, 'Bangla Varshvaran Utsav' was held in some places of Chittagong city. Due to fasting and intense heat, the attendance of this year's event was less than last time. This year's event has an obligation to finish by 12 noon.
