Funeral for young Pakistani shipwreck victim in Peshawar

Relatives and funeral guests attend the funeral of Pakistani teenager Azan Afridi, one of the Pakistani victims of a boat wreck off the coast of Italy, in Peshawar, Pakistan, 15 March 2023. According to Afridi's family, the teenager was among the victims of a boat wreck on 26 February 2023 off the coast of Italy that left 69 people dead. His body was identified by his uncle in Italy. The seventh-grader Afridi was trying to pursue his dream of higher education. The tragedy highlights the lack of quality educational and economic opportunities in Pakistan and the increasing number of people using smugglers to transit through Turkey to enter Europe.
