Don Giustino Russolillo, the parish priest of the Pianura district, in Naples, was proclaimed a saint today by the Church during the ceremony in St. Peter's Square presided over by Pope Francis.
The priest ran the parish of San Giorgio Marie, in the district of the western outskirts of Naples, from 1920 to 1925 and founded the male and female religious orders of the Vocationists (1920; 1921).
He was very attached to the founder of the Sanctuary of Pompeii, Bartolo Longo, and dedicated his life, as well as to the training of children from disadvantaged families in search of new priests. From Pianura, where his memory and the signs of his activity remain strong, hundreds of faithful left for Rome and attended the canonization ceremony. Don Giustino Russolillo died on 2 August 1955 A celebration of thanksgiving for the canonization will be held on Saturday 21 May in the Vocazionario square, in via Torricelli 29 in the Mother House of the Vocationist nuns.
