Ghoramara, the sinking island, 95 km from south Kolkata, India in the Sundernban compounded of the Bay of Bengal. Ghoramara is located on the Hooghly estuary, where saltwater from the Bay of Bengal mixes with freshwater from three major rivers the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and the Meghna. Approximately 8000 people are living in this island. The primary occupation of local people in Ghoramara is betel and rice cultivation, fishing and prawn seed collection. The strength of mother nature in shaping and reshaping cannot be negated. Climate change as the primary causation factor with other reasons like port construction dredge and sparsely. Ghoramara Island is disproportionately burdened by the rising sea-level and not the other nearby islands. There are neither any hospitals nor any doctors in Ghoramara island. For medical assistance people have to crossing the river to reach Kakdwip hospital. High tide swallowing land from all sides, reduces it’s shape. Nature forcing people to move and rebuild their homes.
