Spain: Orangutan infected by Leishmania infantu

According a report published in 'Parasites & Vectors' magazine, 'Kedua', a Bornean orangutan of Madrid zoo, was diagnosed of clinical leishmaniosis, a disease caused by parasites of the Leishmania type, between december 2016 and january 2017. This is the first report of Leishmania infantum infection in great apes, according researches of 'Facultad de Veterinaria de la Universidad Complutense' in Madrid. 'Kedua'. 34-years-old, was born in the Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo (The Netherlands) and transferred to Madrid Zoo in 2009.
