Shelter walk on the occasion of World Diabetes Day by Raja Imran Bahadar
The government should take all possible policy measures to stop the deluge of diabetes.
The number of diabetes patients in Pakistan was 63 lakh in 2011, which has increased to 330 lakh in 2021. In the speed at which diabetes is increasing, Pakistan has become the first in the world. More than 400,000 deaths per year in our country are due to diabetes or its complications, that is, more than 1100 people in Pakistan are dying due to diabetes every day. If immediate policy measures are not taken, the number of people suffering from diabetes will reach 6.2 million by 2045. This was said by Meereen Sehat while addressing the participants of a walk organized by Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) at National Press Club Islamabad on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. Among the participants of the walk were Senior Executive Vice President of Panah Dr. Abdul Qayyum Awan, Consultant of Global Health Advocacy Incubator Manoor Hussain, Former Commissioner FBR Abdul Hafeez, President of Islamabad Press Club Anwar Raza, Panah Vice President Ghulam Abbas, senior journalists, A large number of health professionals, teachers, students and different sections of the society participated. Panah Secretary General Sanahullah Ghaman hosted the event.
