The temporary workers of Bangladesh Railways blocked the Malibagh railway gate area in the capital demanding regularisation of their jobs. As a result, train services between Dhaka and the rest of the country were stopped. They blocked the rail line at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Later, at 2.15 pm, the police chased them away with baton charges and chased them away. Around 10-15 people were injured. Police arrested seven people on the spot.
Ferdous Ahmed Biswas, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station, said the blockade of the railway tracks by the workers cut off communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country. People and passengers have to suffer. After much persuasion, they could not be removed from the railway tracks. They were later removed with batons and chases. Seven people have been arrested.
