India: Water Pollution - A hindrance for the 'Holy Yamuna' flowing through the Indian state capital by Shikha Arya
The waters of the Holy Yamuna flowing through parts of Delhi are no more safe due to the ever increasing pollution. The city has been witnessing an infinite amount of discharge into the river in the form of gallons of foamy industrial waste and garbage thrown by the people. The main source of pollution is however the untreated domestic waste from different parts of the city. Water hyacinth has grown in abundance in the Yamuna waters and the government has not been making sincere efforts to deal with the rising water pollution.
The untreated and semi treated industrial effluents and sewage is the main cause of the Yamuna Pollution. The construction waste is also dumped in the river. The flora and fauna taking shelter in the holy river is no more safe and getting depleted. Eutrophication will soon turn the river into a mess and a marshland if the government and the people of the city don't make efforts to stop this ever-rising pollution.
