Philippines to stop importation of sugar to US by Joseph Dacalanio
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri slammed the Sugar Regulatory Authority (SRA) for continuing the exportation of sugar to the United States, amid a local shortage and pressures to liberalize the industry. Zubiri said the sugar to be shipped out can instead be given to local companies, rather than end users importing the commodity from other countries. Philippines cannot export anymore to the US because it is not a treaty that is binding.
