Philippines: Pata Massacre Memorial Wall by Sherbien Dacalanio
To put an end to the 37 years conflict, top military officials and survivors attended the groundbreaking of the Pata Massacre Memorial Wall and inauguration of Masjid Shuhadah in Likod, Pata Island, Sulu. The gruesome Pata massacre that happened on February 21, 1981 had killed 118 government troops and thousands of Moro people. The rebuilding of the Masjid Shuhadah which means mosque of the martyrs is the peaceful way of reconciliation on both government and Muslim people of the island.
