Based on the Traffic Index 2017 released by TomTom, a GPS company based in the Netherlands, Jakarta is a city with the third highest rate of traffic congestion in the world after Mexico and Bangkok, from a survey in 309 cities in 48 countries around the world. According to the Directorate of Traffic of Jakarta Metro Police, traffic congestion in the capital due to the imbalance between the growth of the highway which is only 0.01 percent per year with a growth of vehicle that reaches 7-9 percent per year.
