Bangladesh: Rush for advance train ticket at Dhaka by Azim Khan Ronnie
A number of home goers crowded at Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka on Saturday to book train seats for their destinations to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, with their near and dear ones in the countryside.
Many people queued up at the station since dawn out of fears that they would not get their expected tickets which were scheduled to be sold from 8:00am.
Bangladesh Railway on Friday began selling advance tickets for holidaymakers for August 27 as three-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha begins from September 1.
On Saturday, the railway was selling advance tickets for August 28.
The BR authority said they would continue to sell advance train tickets until August 23 from 8:00am to 5:00pm for September 1.
On August 20, advance train tickets will be available for August 29, on August 21 for August 30 and on August 22 for August 31.
Kamalapur railway station manager Sitangshu Chakraborty said each passenger would be entitled to buy a maximum of four tickets.
He said that the Government Railway Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Railway Nirapatta Bahini and Rapid Action Battalion had been deployed at the Kamalapur Railway Station to prevent black marketing of train tickets.
BR officials said the demand for tickets would reach the peak on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On August 25, advance tickets for return journeys would be sold for September 3, on August 26 for September 4, on August 27 for September 5, on August 28
