A calligraphy workshop was organized by the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and Nihongo Kaiwa Kyookai Society. The workshop was conducted by Hiroko Nagahama from Tokyo. Students from Japanese learning institutes of the city participated in the workshop.
The ink also known as sumi ink is made from charcoal. The ink is notoriously difficult to remove from clothes. Calligraphers have to be very careful not to drop it on their clothing. The brush has to be held vertically with forefinger and thumb.
