NY: Federal judge visits problem ridden MDC by Gabriele Holtermann-Gorden
Federal judge Analisa Torres visited the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
In testimonies during a hearing in front of Judge Analisa Torres of the Federal District Court in Manhattan, staff, as well as current and former inmates, reported about the intolerable situation at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
According to the witnesses, issues with heat as well as the electrical system had started a couple of weeks before the electrical fire on January, 27.
Judge Torres together with NY Attorney General Letitia James and lawyers representing inmates as well as the Federal Bureau of Prisons toured the facility to get a personal picture of the situation at the jail.
While Judge Torres toured the prison, family members were waiting outside the facility to finally see their relatives after over a week without any contact. Some had arrived at 130 pm and were not allowed to enter the facility until 530 pm.
