Brooklyn, New York: Federal prison protest by Gabriele Holtermann-Gorden
Over 1,000 inmates are still without any electricity and partial heat a week after the power went out last Sunday in a federal prison in Brooklyn, NY. Family members, activists, and NY elected officials joined together in protest demanding that the Federal Bureau of Prisons take immediate actions. According to elected officials who were allowed to enter the facility, the electrical contractor left on Saturday afternoon without rectifying the situation. Due to the problem, inmates have been on lock down unable to receive important medical care or receiving visits from family members.
