The brown bears (Ursus arctos) of Madrid Zoo have started to pair off to breed during the winter. The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is the largest terrestrial carnivoran. In wildlife is distributed across much of northern Eurasia and North America. It remains listed as a least concern species by the IUCN with a total population of approximately 200,000.
