Greece: Prime Minister met with German President by Dimitrios Karvountzis
Frank-Walter Steinmeier President of Germany, has met with Greek Prime Minister. Greek Prime Minister said the following: I can tell you that you are coming to a different moment for Greece, as we can look forward with greater optimism to the future, having left behind the difficult years of austerity, hard austerity, after eight years, successfully completing the third program support and, of course, having more positive prospects for the future.
I regret, however, that I can not speak with the same optimism about the future of Europe as our common structure, our common home, is threatened by the rapid rise of far-right and anti-Europeanism. However, I am glad and proud that Greece is playing a positive role in these forces that threaten our shared values.
Especially in the Balkans, we have done a very brave, courageous step with the Prespa Agreement. And I believe that this Agreement is a model of understanding between two peoples who want to live peacefully, without undervaluing the story and the identity of each other. A courageous step that I believe contributes to stability in the Balkans and, by extension, in the wider region.
I therefore believe, Madam President, that in this moment the special one, in which you officially visit Greece, may also make your visit an occasion for a new beginning in Greek-German relations.
