Thailand: Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Bangkok by Vichan Poti
Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun presides over the Royal Ploughing Ceremony at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. The ancient traditional ceremony is held to mark the beginning of the rice farming season. Thousands of farmers converge in Bangkok for the annual event, which is believed to assure a successful planting season and an abundance of crops. This year the sacred oxen choose to eat grass, drink water and liquor leading to the traditional soothsayers predicts that the country will have adequate supply of water with abundant food and economic prosperity.
