Every year on January 9, millions of Filipinos gather in Manila for a procession of the Black Nazarene, a life-sized statue of a suffering Jesus fallen under the weight of the cross, from Quirino Grandstand in luneta, up to the minor basilica in Quiapo. The Traslación is also notorious for the casualties that result from the jostling and congestion of the crowds pulling the Ándas. The injuries and even deaths of devotees are brought upon by one or several factors including heat, fatigue, or being trampled upon by the crowd.
