XIV Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso returns to Palermo. Joy as an inspiration to invoke peace. After more than twenty years, XIV Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, Tibet's spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize, returns to the city of Palermo.
His holiness after a tour in some Sicilian cities ended his journey with a meeting at the Massimo Theater of the Sicilian capital crowded in every order of places.
The occasion was the meeting "Education to Joy", to deepen the themes and difficulties that prevent the achievement of full happiness. A theme that goes beyond religions. Joy, therefore, as a necessity to cultivate interreligious dialogue, love, compassion and forgiveness, to overcome and defeat all forms of separatism and unite peoples and hearts.
The idea of the conference was inspired by the "Book of Joy" written by Douglas Abrams on the dialogue between the two Nobel Peace prize, the Dalai Lama and the Anglican bishop and South African activist Desmond Tutu.
His Holiness spoke of several topics, pointing out that many philosophical manifestations are the basis of living beyond religions and different confessions. The various philosophies are a heritage and are necessary because they express the various ideas of different peoples.
"I hope that one day Europe will insert Russia among its member states ... and that a united Africa and a united Asia will be formed to reach a united world ... but these are just the dreams of an old man. .. ".
The meeting was attended by the mayor of Palermo Prof. Leoluca Orlando, the Pro Rector of the University of Palermo Prof. Franco Mazzola, Sky Andrea Scrosati, vice president.
His Holiness was awarded the Honorable Citizenship of the City of Isola delle Femmine and of Ventimiglia di Sicilia, and was given a gift of a Ficus Religious specimen that will be planted at the Botanical Garden of Palermo so that it can become a place of meditation.
