Srinagar: Restrictions in downtown prevent protest by Faisal Bhat
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir today imposed restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar to prevent protests against the killings of Rohingya Muslims.
An official said restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations in Downtown Srinagar.
Reports said that Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Downtown Srinagar was sealed.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who heads the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), an amalgam of various religious bodies, has called for protests today against the killings of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
Mirwaiz, who addresses the faithful every Friday at the Jamia, has been placed under house arrest to prevent him from leading any demonstrations.
