India: Nadia celebrates unique Independence Day by Avijit Ghosh
15th august, 1947 is the Indian Independence day. But Shivniwas Village of Nadia district in West bengal celebrates the independence day on 18th August. Sir Cyril Radcliffe who was in charge to draw the borders of India and Pakistan awarded most of the Nadia district inspite of Hindu majority to East Pakistan. There were protests and on 17th august 1947 it was declared that this part will be the part of India. So people here celebrate independence day on 18th August.
