Pakistan: 429th Urs Festival in Lahore by Rana Sajid Hussain
Pakistani devotees attend the three- days 429th annual Urs 'Festival of lights' at the shrine of Muslim Sufi saint Shah Hussain, popularly known as Madho Lal Hussain in Lahore on March 27,2017.Annually thousands of devotees from all over the country light oil lamps to pay homage the 16th century saint, Shah Hussein (1538-1599). Three -days 429th annual festival celebrations Urs (death anniversary of a Sufi saint deemed as a union with the Almighty) celebrations. a Sufi saint and poet who lived from 1538 to 1599. Shah Hussain was a mystic and Madho Lal, a Hindu youth, was his friend and disciple. Shah Hussain was so close to Madho Lal that he is known by the composite name of Madho Lal Hussain and they are buried beside each other. Madho Lal Hussain is considered a pioneer of the kafi form of Punjabi poetry.
